It inspects incoming prompts to detect task types such as chat, code, or reasoning, selecting tuned provider chains designed for quality and cost efficiency. If a primary model provider encounters errors, timeouts, or an open circuit breaker, ElseLane automatically transfers the request to a backup lane. Developers can integrate the service as an OpenAI drop-in replacement using the /v1/chat/completions endpoint with model 'auto', while built-in guardrails block or redact sensitive PII and secrets before transmission.
