Operating isolated Ubuntu machines within kernel-level sandboxes on dedicated hardware, Idle9 keeps files, installed software packages, databases, and running services intact between developer sessions. Rather than resetting when a browser tab closes, the environment automatically takes a snapshot after 20 minutes of inactivity and wakes back to the exact same state without cold starts or package reinstalls. Developers can connect AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, VS Code, Zed, and MCP clients to read and write files, execute shell commands, and expose development server ports to public URLs, or access the workspace directly via SSH, scp, and rsync.
